Week 4 Intervention

This week focused purely on sprinting. Blake sprinted on the bike for different distances ranging from 50 meters to 200 meters. So that was 50m, 100m, 150m and 200m. This allowed Blake to continue to try and keep his average speed the same. Blake also had longer breaks between sprinting so that he could recover and perform at the same intensity across all of them.

Overall it went really well. The results were as follows:

50m – 4 secs (0.08 secs/m)

100m – 9 secs (0.09 secs/m)

150m – 15 secs (0.1 secs/m)

200m – 20 secs (0.1 secs/m)

It is evident that Blake showed a reasonably consistent pace across all 4 distances. This means that in his final test that he will do in week 6, we should see some consistency throughout the trail.

I felt that Blake did a solid effort this week. I think he showed potential towards week 6 and I believe that he is going to do very well. I think his starts could do with a little improvement in terms of speed. Things such as starting in a lower gear will help him improve his time even more. Although, once Blake had reached his top speed, he was flying past us and he was not slowing down. Awesome effort this week.

Client Feedback:

How did you feel during the sprints?

I felt sorta scared but after a bit, I got more confident.

Do you feel that the sprints helped towards the test at the end?

yes definitely

How do you feel for the test in week 6?

I hope I will be confident enough but I think I almost have the skills to get better and faster by a large margin.

Do you overall feel that you have improved?

Yes by a large margin, when I first started I didn’t feel confident but now i have the skills.

This week was definitely a successful week because we achieved what we wanted to achieve which was keeping that constant speed throughout the 4 different distance. Blake has really improved from day 1 in both technical riding and speed as well as his confidence. With his new knowledge and skills, I believe we will see a big improvement on the time of the trail in week 6.

Next week will be a walk through and analysis of the trail. We will be stopping at almost every corner and technical section demonstrating how Blake should approach it. After doing this, we will run the trail one more time before the big test in week 6 where we should see improvements.
